First off — the fact that this felt like it dropped with zero promotion is crazy to me. Maybe I was under a rock, maybe Netflix is experimenting with silent releases, but either way… the Punisher and Valkyrie linking up on Netflix? That’s a gift I’ll never complain about. Let me know in the comments if this was everywhere and I somehow missed it.
Now, I’m not gonna lie — at the start, I wasn’t sure how much I liked His & Hers. I was locked in, guessing what was really going on the whole time, but something about the tone felt restrained… almost like it was holding back. And that’s where the six-episode format really shines. It’s not asking too much of you. You don’t feel trapped. You just keep going.
And then that finale hits.
No exaggeration — this might be one of the best final episodes I’ve watched compared to the rest of its own series. Like, genuinely mind-blowing. Everything snaps into place in a way that makes you immediately reevaluate what you’ve been watching the entire time.
The strained, stressed, borderline dysfunctional personal and working relationship between Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson is the glue holding this thing together. Watching them do each other dirty over and over again had me talking to the screen — but the level of pain they tap into to sell that dynamic is unreal. It feels earned. It feels exhausting. And it feels real.
This small-town murder spree works because the emotional weight is doing as much damage as the plot itself. And while I found out after finishing that it was based on a novel — pleasant surprise — I’m not about to read it. But if that’s your thing, read it and come back and tell me how much better it is… because nobody ever says the adaptation wins.
Bottom line: this is a big win for Netflix and a strong way to start the year. Every episode might sit around a solid 3.5 for me, but that finale? That’s a big, unapologetic five-star episode. And honestly, it makes the whole journey worth it.
